Aldehyde-Assisted Ruthenium(II)-Catalyzed CH Oxygenations

Angewandte Chemie International Edition  by Fanzhi Yang, Karsten Rauch, Katharina Kettelhoit, Lutz Ackermann  /   2h   //   keep unread   //   hide   //   preview Abstract Versatile ruthenium(II) complexes allow for site-selective CH oxygenations with weakly-coordinating aldehydes. The challenging CH functionalizations proceed with high chemoselectivity by rate-determining CH metalation. The new method features an ample substrate scope, which sets the stage for the step-economical preparation of various bioactive heterocycles. The weakest link : Challenging aryl CH oxygenations with very weakly coordinating aldehydes proceed chemoselectively in the presence of versatile ruthenium(II) catalysts under mild reaction conditions. This transformation features an ample substrate scope and excellent positional selectivity. Visit Website

ABSTRACT EDITOR'S SUMMARY The photosynthetic protein complex photosystem II oxidizes water to molecular oxygen at an embedded tetramanganese-calcium cluster. Resolving the geometric and electronic structure of this cluster in its highest metastable catalytic state (designated S 3 ) is a prerequisite for understanding the mechanism of O-O bond formation. Here, multifrequency, multidimensional magnetic resonance spectr...
